Physics Department as a separate unit was created in 1968.

In 1974 its resource base increased considerably: workshops were improved, new research laboratories were created where optical properties of ionic crystals at low temperatures were researched.

At the end of 1980s in Chernihiv branch of KPI the electronic specialities started to develop – “Industrial Electronics” and “Computers” and the resource base for future departments was created on the bases of Physics Department.

The teaching staff of the department

The theoretical course for all engineering specialities is delivered at the department as well as basic training disciplines for bachelors in electronic engineering – electronic engineering materials, quantum electronics and microwave engineering.

The staff of the department researched the properties of narrow band semiconductors and created microwave sensors on their basis. Electro physical properties of different types of liquid crystals were examined and studied. The resume of these researches is presented in the series of scientific works and in the teaching aid. The result of work together with Chemistry Department is the creation of active material corrosion protection remedies.

In the training process at the Physics Department students study physical properties and phenomena underlying modern technology operation, learn to solve problems and to make conclusions, to measure and to process the results, master the skills of physical processes imagining and analysing engineering situations, graphic documentation.

Particular attention at the department is paid to students – village school-leavers, whose knowledge of physics got at school is not always very good.

Studying the basic training disciplines for specialists - electrical engineering materials, quantum electronics and microwave engineering - makes possible better understanding of many modern electronic components and devices operation principle. Future engineers master the understanding of laser using means in such up-to-date technologies as holography, information processing and data recording etc., learn the modern radio-frequency equipment operation principles: antennas, space television, telecommunication systems, microwave heaters.
