During the last decade attention has been focused on the human problems of the environment. Society realized that further development is impossible without harmonious ecological culture and education awareness, knowledge about the environment in the world and the immediate place of residence. Current time is the period of acute conflict between human society and nature, as irrational economic activities violated the dynamic equilibrium of the biosphere of our planet. This has led to its progressive destruction: exhaustion of natural resources, sharp deterioration of the environment, mass diseases of plants, animals and people. The result is a threat of further development of human civilization on the Earth. Degradation of the environment reduces the supply of raw materials, makes technological cycles and worsens general condition of ecological systems. Annual anthropogenic emissions of 6*1011 tons (6.7 million tons of pollutants - in Ukraine) in river systems of the Earth looks like 450 km3 of dirty waste water (7817 million m3 - in reservoirs of Ukraine). In 2010 Ukraine accumulated more than 431.6 million tons of waste, of which 419.2 million tons in industrial activity, leading to dangerous contamination of the soil.

In current conditions successful livelihoods require special attention to the use of creative intellectual potential of human resources. Its implementation is possible by educating young professionals on high ecological culture and erudition.

IIn October, 2011 Chernihiv State Technological University joined the Tempus Project «Establishing Modern Master Level Studies in Industrial Ecology». The project coordinator is the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) - one of the largest leading technical universities in Europe. More information about the project and its participants can be found at

As the part of the project in CSTU the specialty 8.18010017 - Business Environment and Natural Resources will be opened, with a new specialty "Industrial Ecology". Everyone will be able to get higher economic education of Master Degree in "Economics of Environment and Natural Resources" with a basic (educational qualification of Bachelor) and complete (educational qualification of Specialist and Master) higher education of economic, environmental, natural and technical directions.

Thus, graduates who received bachelor of these specialties will be able to complete higher education in Economics, and to their colleagues who have already qualified as Specialists or Masters of Engineering specialties the Master course in "Business Environment and Natural Resources" will give a possibility of the second higher economic education.

On this stage CSTU professors are developing qualification requirements for Specialists in Economic Environment and Natural Resources. The selection of equipment for a new laboratory of Industrial Ecology is being carried out. It is scheduled to open in the second semester of the 2012/2013 academic year, with funds allocated by the Tempus Project.
